PETALING JAYA: XL Holdings Bhd has announced a partnership between its 51%-owned subsidiary, XTRA Delivery Sdn Bhd, which provides services for delivering chilled and frozen goods and parcels to destinations across Malaysia, and courier service provider City-Link Express (M) Sdn Bhd.

XTRA will leverage City-Link Express’ facilities, enhancing its ability to reach customers across Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak.

City-Link Express will provide its premises as drop-off points and courier centres for XTRA’s chilled and frozen goods.

XTRA customers can now avail the services at any City-Link Express location. They can schedule XTRA’s delivery services either through XTRA’s website or by scanning a QR code available at City-Link Express’ premises.

The new “Pick Up, Drop Off” services introduced by XTRA at these premises allow customers to complete their orders and drop off their parcels at their convenience.

XTRA CEO Glenn Teh Hong Seng said, “The increase in our drop-off points and courier centres broadens our reach, providing our customers with a greater range of convenient options.”

Under the agreement, XTRA will provide all necessary equipment for these services, including the proprietary XTRABox for chilled and frozen goods or parcels. Meanwhile, City-Link Express will allocate space within each premises for XTRA to operate.

We would like to express the highest appreciation and gratitude towards the Minister of Communications and Digital, YB Fahmi Fadzil, and Deputy Minister YB Teo Nie Ching (张念群) who took the time to discuss concerns affecting the postal and courier sector, which employs about 175,000 people locally.

Despite his busy schedule of attending a session of parliament where he spoke about cybersecurity and 5G prior to the meeting, he still made it to the roundtable session as planned.

For the first time, all industry players are present at the roundtable discussion with YB Fahmi, including representatives from e-commerce sites Lazada Malaysia and Shopee, postal and courier companies like Pos Malaysia Berhad, GDEX Berhad, J&T Express Malaysia, Ninja Van Malaysia, City-Link Express, Skynet Worldwide (M) Sdn Bhd, and M-EXPRESS, as well as representatives from the Postal Forum and the Association of Malaysian Express Carriers (AMEC).

In good spirits, everyone left the meeting and continued with a filling lunch at the Hilton KL while YB Fahmi hurried back to work. Overall, the meeting was productive, and we appreciate the minister’s effort in keeping up with the industry players.

On 1st March 2023, City-Link Express in collaboration with HATI – a non-profit movement supporting the underprivileged had helped make the Back to School Project a success. HATI – going with the slogan of “bridging the ‘have’ and the ‘have nots’ had reached out to City-Link Express to participate in the charity project. As it was a perfect opportunity for City-Link Express to give back to the community as thanks for the support that we have received over the years, we volunteered to become the delivery partner on behalf of HATI to send stationary kits to about 18 charity homes and orphanages for free. This is in conjunction with the annual school holiday that is going to end where the children will need stationeries for their new school year. It is hoped that the new stationeries also serve as a motivation for the kids to go to school.

Pada 11 Mac 2023, City-Link Express diwakili oleh Yennie Chua, Pengurus City-Link Express kawasan Melaka telah dipilih sebagai salah satu penerima Anugerah Majikan Prihatin oleh Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial (PERKESO) sempena penyertaan City-Link Express di dalam Karnival Kerjaya MyFutureJobs Melaka CareerTrans 2023. 

Program tersebut bertempat di Pusat Dagangan Antarabangsa Melaka (MITC) dan membabitkan hingga 25 majikan daripada pelbagai sektor dan industri.  

Perasmian telah dilakukan oleh 1) Majlis Exco Perpaduan, Penerangan, Sumber Manusia dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna Negeri – Ngwe Hee Sem 2) Pengarah Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial (PERKESO) Negeri Melaka, Abd Razak Omar.

Menurut Hee Sem, karnival tersebut merupakan acara tahunan bagi negeri Melaka dan PERKESO sejak dua tahun lalu dan telah mendapat sambutan yang sangat baik dari kedua-dua  majikan dan peserta. Syarikat swasta seperti Petronas, Sime Darby Plantation Berhad, Maybank Berhad, Infineon Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd, Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Hatten Hotel Melaka A Famosa Resort contohnya telah menyertai karnival yang lepas.

Hee Sem juga berkata bahawa industri gig juga telah diketengahkan dengan penglibatan daripada platform digital seperti Grabcar, Theal Medical Services dan Akla Services yang menawarkan peluang pekerjaan di dalam ekonomi Gig. Karnival pada tahun ini menyaksikan peluang pekerjaan untuk golongan Orang Kurang Upaya (OKU) yang ditawarkan adalah sehingga 10 peratus kerana karnival tersebut mensasarkan untuk mencapai kadar pengambilan pekerja yang lebih tinggi dan inklusif. 

Abd Razak Omar selaku wakil dari PERKESO pula menekankan agar pekerja e-hailing mendaftar dengan PERKESO untuk mendapatkan caruman sebagai perlindungan kepada diri mereka. Beliau berkata dalam 5,800 pekerja e-hailing di Melaka, masih ada yang tidak berdaftar dengan PERKESO.

On 7th January 2023, Shoppymore held a formal event to officiate City-Link Express as the platform’s delivery agent. We thank Shoppymore for their trust and support towards City-Link Express to handle their last-mile delivery.  It is such an honor to be able to take part in making our local products more accessible to the communities. 

Shoppymore is a Malaysian-owned platform that was launched in 2021 with the aim to focus on online selling our own Malaysian-made products ranging from cosmetics, apparel, and also gadgets. Not only that, but since Malaysia is famous for its diverse and culture-rich food, exportable delicacies and packed drinks such as Serunding, Pisang salai, and coconut drinks are also found sold in the webstore. 

With that said, as Shoppymore is planning to expand to India, Indonesia, and the Philippines, City-Link Express would be even more exhilarated to be able to take up the responsibility to introduce and distribute our local taste and culture to the neighboring countries with the hope to serve and give back to our local community.
